AACHS is excited to announce a truly generous and meaningful matching gift opportunity from Mr. David Kahn, a member of the 220th Class.
David is committed to matching all donations this Giving Tuesday up to $50,000 to support our school’s continued growth—and he’s encouraging all of us to follow his lead.
David entered Central in September of 1959, where he forged lifelong friendships and was profoundly influenced by the inspiring teachers and the best public school education. His passion for history was sparked by Mr. Mulloy, while Mr. Brous instilled in him a love for math, teaching him to persevere through challenges.
David also discovered his love for radio and entertainment, sparking interests that would later influence his career.
“I now know that my education at Central was a major difference maker in my life. With a quality post-war middle-class upbringing, attending Central was the icing on the cake. The alumni who came before us were supportive, and we got the best education in the city. It’s important to me, and to all of us, that this legacy continues.”
As an executive in the printing industry, David built a successful career, but his commitment to Central has always been a driving force.
In 1991, he answered the call from the late Dr. Pavel, the 13th President of Central High, to return to the school and help to mentor students involved in the school’s publications. Over the years, David has mentored countless students, helping them develop writing, critical thinking, and leadership skills.
In 1998, David joined the Board of Managers, where he has served in a variety of roles, including President, and is currently the school’s Archivist and Historian.
David and his wife of 54 years, Jessica Kahn, have long been involved in a variety of philanthropic initiatives, including supporting library programs, schools, food banks, and other nonprofit organizations. Their commitment to education and community continues to inspire their ongoing involvement.
“It is critical that the students today and, in the future, have the opportunities we had. The facilities, the resources, and the education that Central provides will prepare them to become the leaders of tomorrow. That’s why I’m giving back now—and why I’m asking you to consider doing the same.”
David’s gift will be to support the Leading the Way Capital Campaign. The campaign aims to support the school’s critical infrastructure, enhance educational programs, and provide students with the tools and resources they need to succeed in today’s society in meaningful ways.
P.S. If you missed #GivingTuesday but still want to contribute, we are grateful for any size donation meaningful to you. Let’s continue to make a difference, one gift at a time.
