The Home & School Association of Central High School hopes you will plan to participate in some way in its exciting annual auction night. As requested by many parents and guardians, all funds raised at the event will be used for bathroom and facility renovations.
Tonie Atterbury and Carmen Hayman, the co-vice presidents of fundraising, say:
“The severe budget crisis in the Philadelphia public schools has hit Central hard. Central’s operating budget has been cut year-after-year. This year’s budget provides Central with just over $5,000 per student—less than any other high school in the district. That amount is just a fraction of what some suburban school districts consider “the bare minimum” expenditure per pupil. Central for many years has lacked adequate money to update its technology–its teachers have been using computers so old they could not even be fixed when they broke down and students have been using computers so antiquated that even their batteries failed. We simply owe it to them (and us) to do better for these future leaders, scholars, artists and writers.
