AACHS Committees
The AACHS Board of Managers is organized into committees to advise and work on the key priorities of our organization, with the support and leadership of our Alumni Office staff. Individuals not on the Board of Managers, but who are interested in participating are welcome to join any committee that is open except the Executive Committee.
Art Chair: Jordan Yuter, 243
The Art committee oversees the wide range of art held at Central and manages donations of art to the school. This term, the committee intends to supervise the rehanging of art in the building, hopes to exhibit some of the school’s art at a gallery, and also hopes to clean and restore several pieces over the course of the term.
Class Representatives Chair: Rudy Cvetkovic, 239
The Class Representatives committee is charged with working closely with class representatives to ensure that alumni are continually engaged in the activities of the school and the AACHS and supporting their efforts around class-specific activities including reunions and fundraising efforts.
Programs and Communications Chair: Michael Horwits, 251 and Kiana Nunn, 259
The Communications committee, working closely with staff, works to keep our membership engaged through the production of the Alumni Journal, various social media accounts, and our email program. The committee is also charged with identifying new ways to reach alumni through mass communications.
Capital Campaign Chair. Stephen I. Kasloff, Esq.,228 and David R. Kahn, 220
The Capital Campaign works closely with our staff to raise funds for the AACHS, our efforts in support of the school, and our capital campaign, Leading the Way. This includes developing strategies to encourage board members to be full partners in the fundraising process, ensuring board members have the necessary tools, and identifying new strategies to support our efforts.
1836 Committee Chair: Sherrell W. Ganges, 254
The 1836 Committee is a dedicated group of alumni who promote engagement and honor those who have given $1,836 or more to AACHS. By leveraging their energy and ideas, they help build community, celebrate leadership
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Chair: Hannah Baker, 274
The DEI committee works to support DEI efforts within the school community, to ensure that our board is representative of the school community.
Finance Chair: Gene Marks, 241
The Finance committee is responsible for developing the organization’s annual budget, which is presented for adoption by the full board at the annual reorganization meeting.
Information Management Chair: Charles E. Washington, Jr., 249
The Information Management committee supports AACHS’s data and website systems to ensure accuracy, security, and usability. This committee manages information strategy, maintains data integrity and privacy, and supports the digital infrastructure that keeps our alumni network connected.
Hall of Fame Chair: George Mosee Jr., Esq., 232
The Hall of Fame committee is responsible for the Alumni Hall of Fame and the Faculty Hall of Fame, both of which honor extraordinary members of our Central High community. This includes managing the nominations process, vetting candidates, and organizing induction events.
Investment Committee Chair: Steven Shapiro, D.O, 225
The Investment Committee oversees the management of investments under the control of the AACHS including various endowments and scholarship funds. The committee works closely with AACHS leadership, staff, investment advisors, and legal counsel to ensure that funds in our trust are carefully and appropriately managed.
Law Committee Chair: David W. Birnbaum, Esq., 265
The Law Committee serves to advise the AACHS on legal matters including reviewing all contracts for the organization. It is also responsible for the maintenance of the AACHS by-laws.
Nominations and Elections Chair: David R. Kahn, 220
The Nominations and Elections committee recruits (with assistance and support from all board members and staff), interviews and recommends individuals for election to the board or board offices. Their recommendations are considered by the full board in advance of the board election at the annual meeting each June.
Prizes and Scholarships Chair: Cecil W. Johnson III, Ph.D, 244
The Prizes and Scholarships committee manages the many scholarships and awards offered to Central students, particularly at graduation. The committee works closely with our financial team, Board leadership, staff, and the Investment Committee to determine disbursements in line with law, internal policy, and donor intent.
School and Student Engagement Chair: Karima I.A. Bouchenafa, 249
The School and Student Engagement committee will work to identify and support opportunities to bring alumni back to the school community to share their experiences with Central students, as well as identify other ways to support the school and student community.
