Tuesday, April 28 | 11:00 AM | Central High School

Central High School is proud to welcome back one of its own—a true Philly original and distinguished Hall of Famer—for a special installment of the 218 Speaker Series.

Acclaimed courtroom artist and alumnus Steve Werblun (229) will return to campus on Tuesday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. for a dynamic presentation and art donation event.

A Philadelphia native whose work has captured some of the most defining legal moments of the past several decades, Mr. Werblun has served as a courtroom artist for both NBC News and CNN since 1976. Over the course of his career, he has illustrated hundreds of high-profile trials, including the historic O.J. Simpson murder trial and the Rodney King federal trials.

In a meaningful act of giving back, Mr. Werblun (229) will donate ten of his original courtroom illustrations to Central High School. These works—visual records of pivotal moments in American legal and cultural history—will be permanently displayed in the school’s new Performing Arts Center building, enriching the student experience for generations to come.

Working in Los Angeles, Mr. Werblun’s courtroom subjects have often reflected a “who’s who” of the entertainment world. His vibrant, full-color illustrations have captured figures such as Madonna, Roseanne Barr, Steven Spielberg, Alec Baldwin, Lionel Richie, Paula Abdul, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson, among many others.

Beyond the courtroom, Mr. Werblun (229) has also built an impressive career as a storyboard artist in the film industry. His visual storytelling can be seen in more than 40 feature films, including The Day After Tomorrow, Along Came Polly, Stigmata, The Negotiator, Equilibrium, and Batman & Robin.

Guests are invited to attend a special luncheon and enjoy an engaging, image-filled presentation as Mr. Werblun reflects on his remarkable career. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the ten courtroom illustrations being donated to Central.

All Central High School alumni, city officials, friends, family, and members of the media are cordially invited to join us for this memorable occasion celebrating art, history, and the enduring legacy of a Central High School graduate who has left his mark on both.

We look forward to welcoming the CHS community for this inspiring event.
