Central High Alumni Board member Steven A. Shapiro (225) was recently honored as physician of the year by Abington -Jefferson Health system for his commitment to community needs.
As chairman of the Pediatrics Department at Abington Memorial Hospital, Dr. Shapiro “was instrumental in creating the Corinne Santerian Newborn Center, providing care to some of the most vulnerable underserved in our community, newborrn babies to age 3 months,” the citation for his award reads.
“Clearly he is a dynamic leader but perhaps the strongest testimony to Steve is evident in the words of thankful parents: “Dr. Shapiro is a great example of how a caring, empathetic medical professional can help to make a trying experience much more bearable.”
