As we celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month, and reflect on the rich cultural contributions of Jewish Americans, we are delighted to highlight two exceptional students, Zoe B. and Derek M., from the 284th graduating class at Central High School.
Zoe and Derek exemplify the essence of Central’s traditions through their academic achievements and active engagement in the community. Their dedication embodies the values that are cherished at our beloved High.
Noa B., 284, a member of the Jewish Student Union and Assistant Principal’s Aide shared,
“When I first came to Central, i joined the Jewish Student Union (JSU).
I was able to feel grounded and acclimated to the school environment and with my peers through our shared background and the similar holidays and traditions we observe.
I feel that the Jewish culture allows for us to really find a deeper connection with the Jewish geography in and around Central.
I am already seeing how widespread our alumni community is and the direct support that the AACHS gives to students.
One alumnus, Mr. Steinberg (221), is a staple at Central and at our Synagogue. He is someone who has illuminated my understanding of the connections between our school and personal affiliations.
Knowing that there are faculty and alumni who are truly honest and supportive of students’ faith or background has really culminated in my appreciation for role models. it has comforted me in knowing that i can one day become a role model for future students.”
Derek M., 284, who is also a member of the Jewish Student Union added,
“I am very close with my family members, and thankful for the tight-knit community we have in our culture.
That is a large part of the Jewish culture. Many of the friends I have met at Central who I may have otherwise never met; we feel there is a sense of belonging.
I participated in Maccabiah games in Israel recently, and the opportunity to go to Israel was special as I was able to understand the gravity behind what makes me the person I am today.”
As we conclude our celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month and the recognition of Zoe B. and Derek M., we are reminded of the importance of supporting student activities like the Jewish Student Union (JSU) and all cultural clubs at Central High School.
These clubs provide a sense of belonging and connection for students, fostering a supportive community where traditions and identities are celebrated.
Your support for these student-led initiatives not only enriches the high school experience but also empowers students to explore and embrace their cultural heritage.
Let’s continue to uplift and champion the diversity that makes Central High School such a vibrant and inclusive community.
