Marcus Parker (260) and Mea Meeks (260)

Marcus Parker (260) and Mea Meeks (260)

We met as two scrawny teenagers at Central. We attended a few classes together and had gained mutual friends over the years. A playful relationship was developed where the both of us were constantly teasing each other (mainly Marcus) One of our last interactions was when we signed each others yearbooks, wishing each other well and going our separate ways.

Valerie J. Valentine (251) and Quincy M. Walcott (251)

Valerie J. Valentine (251) and Quincy M. Walcott (251)

We met in advisory …. we’re friends, we were each asked by other people to set them up with the other. We ended up liking each other & then …. til death did us part. We have 2 amazing kids Brittany (27) & Brandon (17), Brandon wears Quincy’s # for football!!!

Justin Mosley (265) and Jaleesa Howard (266)

Justin Mosley (265) and Jaleesa Howard (266)

The first time we spoke to each other was in brief passing while walking Central’s hallways. I was in the 9th grade and Justin was in the 10th and didn’t know each other at the time. I remember I was holding a cake and he jokingly asked me for a piece (not having a clue who I was) to his surprise I said sure, we both laughed and that was that! It wasn’t until I was in the 10th and he was in the 11th grade, and we both ended up in the same geometry class, that we would really meet.

Christian Lucia (273) and Brianna Sartori (274)

Christian Lucia (273) and Brianna Sartori (274)

We met during my sophomore year and Brianna’s freshmen year. We had the same lunch and started hanging out around Christmas break 2011. We have officially been together since March 5th 2012. We just were married on June 25th 2021. Central was such a great place for us to meet, it helped cultivate our ideas, make friendships, and gave us inspirations to work towards.

Grettel Mendoza (260) and Brandon Logan (259)

LaShonna Holloway (255) and Bryan Johnson (255)

LaShonna Holloway (255) and Bryan Johnson (255)

Bryan and I met in 1992 during our freshman year (class of 255!!). The first time we met, we locked eyes in the hallway and that was the moment where our souls connected. Naturally, we wanted to get to know each other better. One day after gym class, Bryan and I stayed behind to sit on the bleachers to talk. I’m sure we both missed our next class or two. We both remember it being an amazing conversation and at the end Bryan gave me his gold chain to wear.

Spencer T. Clayton (260) and Tia Burroughs (260)

Spencer T. Clayton (260) and Tia Burroughs (260)

Although Tia and I knew each other at Central, the story of our relationship started almost fifteen years after graduation with a chance meeting at an academic conference in San Diego. We talked at length and once we realized that we were both on the same return flight to Philadelphia, Tia switched her seat so we could sit next to each other and continue getting to know each other.

Jennifer Maguire (262)and Kevin Norton (262)

Jennifer Maguire (262) and Kevin Norton (262)

Throughout our time within Central hallowed halls, Kevin and I only shared two classes. We had known each other before high school, but we were not close; he is the cousin of a friend, and we would occasionally end up at the same get-togethers. However, he left an impression on me in those two measly classes.

Yvonne Lutz (252) and Paul Jesiolowski (252)

Yvonne Lutz (252) and Paul Jesiolowski (252)

Paul and I met in the orchestra. I remember the first time I walked into the room at 14 years old I saw him standing behind the timpani. My eyes were instantly drawn to him, I found him to be so handsome. We didn’t date right away.

Meet The Executive Director: Cynthia Lech, 263

Cynthia Lech, 263

The AACHS Board of Managers is pleased
to welcome Cynthia Lech (263) as the organization’s first full-time executive director. She’s no stranger to the AACHS, having served on the Board of Managers for several years.

Patricia Ramos (265) and Sean Ballentine (266)

Patricia Ramos (265) and Sean Ballentine (266)

Lancers and libraries. She noticed him while at a group training for their after school jobs at Philadelphia Public Libraries. They first met each other in the 3rd floor middle corridor of CHS in between the buzzer rings. Sean was walking out of choir rehearsal down the hall towards the steps with Patricia’s childhood best friend, Stephanie Waskiewicz 266.

Catherine McClendon (266) and Darren Brow (266)

Catherine McClendon (266) and Darren Brow (266)

We met on the front lawn at the end of our sophomore year — back when Half-Day Fridays were still a thing. In typical 16-year-old boy fashion, Darren hurt himself trying to impress me (read: he fell out of a tree).

Nancy Abraham (272) and Noel Abraham (270)

Nancy Abraham (272) and Noel Abraham (270)

It was the first day of high school at the infamous Central High, and me and my good friend were exploring the school during our lunch, unsure of where to go. My friend ran into someone she knew, an upperclassman.

Jorge Moyett (247) and Catherine E. Calimer (248)

Jorge Moyett (247) and Catherine E. Calimer (248)

I was a freshman, he was a sophomore.

There he was changing for football practice on the 2nd middle hallway. Me minding my own business was walking towards him and saw he was in his underwear, I just looked and he said: “what the @$!* are you looking at?”

Shareese Barnett (257) and Napoleon Nelson (257)

Shareese Barnett (257) and Napoleon Nelson (257)

We met in Mr. Bronstein’s chemistry class in 10th grade. We remained friends until the middle of senior year. We dated through college and got married right after we graduated. We now have a 16-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter. Still going strong 23 years later!

Deegan Headshot

Neil Deegan, Vice President, 263 It wasn’t long after graduating from college that Neil Deegan started going back to Central to take part in the school’s annual Career Day. While he was a student at Central, he worked closely with the AACHS committee that worked on building the new Barnwell Library so he already knew […]

Philadelphia’s Central High Receives $19 Million for Arts Center

Central High School in Philadelphia, the oldest continuously operating public high school in the country, has announced gifts totaling $19 million for the construction of a performing arts center. To be connected to the existing building via a transparent bridge, the two-story center will feature state-of-the-art labs and facilities for individual, ensemble, and choral music lessons; a four-hundred seat performance hall; and a modern lobby decorated with student art and photography.

With boost from alum, Central High is expanding … again

The already massive Central High School is expanding by 45,000 square feet with a new $42 million performing arts center, kickstarted with a $10 million donation by a prominent graduate. The design for the two-story addition was done by MGA Partners, a local architecture firm. Plans call for the addition to hold a 400-seat theater, a STEM innovation center, a digital media and technology center, and common areas. It will be located on the north lawn, near the corner of Ogontz and Olney Avenues.

Gifts From 228 Help Central With Multiple Challenges

Pretty picture of CHS

You have to have a good sales pitch to raise millions of dollars and the ability to take that pitch to the right audience. Central just got a big hand in its effort to do that from its 228th graduated class. Central’s alumni association, administrators and its new director of development, Lynn Norton Robins, are […]
